Assignment 3
Critical factors that will affect Robert’s success as a leader are
1)whether or not he possess the traits to make a great leader.
2) Whether he has a vision for the department
3) The level of trust the employees have in his as a supervisor.
I think that these factors would be the same if success were defined as group satisfaction
rather than group productivity because group satisfaction affects group productivity. The
greater the group satisfaction, the greater the productivity level.
2.) I think Robert can choose a leadership style. The leadership style that I think would be
best for him is consultative-participative leadership which is a style that seeks input and
hears the concerns and issues of followers, but makes the final decision using input as an
information-seeking exercise. This will work best as it will allow the group of mature
employees who have been with the department for a while a sense of being heard, and
hopefully increase trust, cooperation while maintaining productivity.
3.) To help win the support of Uri, Robert can show trust by giving Uri as much autonomy
and control over his own work as he can. It will show Uri that Robert believes that Uri is
skillful enough to do good work without Robert constant involvement and direction.
Robert can also use Uri as his go to guy when he has questions or concerns.
Factors that may be important in determining the leadership style to use with Uri is the
level of respect Uri has for Robert, Robert’s personality and self-confidence.
