Assignment #3 Emoji Narrative
For the last two assignments we composed essays using standard written English on a page. We
have learned how to write descriptive texts using visual language, how to write about texts, how
to structure an academic essay with a clear introduction, body paragraph(s), and conclusion,
transition from one idea to the next, and have worked through ordering steps with a specific
process in mind. Each of these tasks have encouraged you to think carefully and critically about
the rhetorical situation as well as rhetorical devices and how they might look on the page.
With that said, for this assignment you will compose using multimodality, specifically visual and
linguistic modes. You will engage in 3 tasks for this assignment. First, you will write a 500-word
narrative composed in standard written English. Secondly, you will compose the same narrative
using Emojis. There is no limit to how many you can use, but you must use at least 25 emojis.
Finally, you will reflect, in 500-words, on the differences and challenges between composing in
English and Emojis.
How you choose to format this essay is up to you, think carefully and critically about the
rhetorical choices you must make when it comes to images or writing in standard English. The
only stipulation is that you must complete the three tasks as they are outlined above.
You may choose from any of the following prompts for your narrative:
Major life events like a new job, a new home, the birth of a sibling, or the death of
someone we love can have a profound impact on us. Describe a major event in your life
and what it taught you about yourself or others.
It has been said that the truth is often stranger than fiction. Describe an experience you had that
