1. A stream is defined as any water flow through a channel, from the smallest creek to the
largest river. Its function is to drain water from the land.
2. Wetlands are identified by the presence of abundant water in soils or on the surface and
water-loving vegetation. Wetlands are hydrologic, hydrophyte, and hydric soils. Its benefits
are to improve water quality in rivers, provide ecological habitats for migrating birds,
moderate the effects of flooding by slowing runoff, and provide reaction for humans.
3. Groundwater is a large quantity of water that occurs below the surface in the pores and
cracks of soil, sediment, and rocks. In the united states, it is used for irrigation.

1. The shore is the place where the ocean meets the land and the coast is the zone affected
by the processes that occur at the sea-land boundary.
2. Salinity is the total dissolved inorganic solids in seawater. The ocean’s average salinity is 35
ppt (3.5%)
3. The sources of salts in seawater are river runoff, volcanic eruption, hydrothermal vents, and
the decay of once-living organisms. The most abundant ions are chloride, sodium, sulfate,
magnesium, calcium, potassium, and bicarbonate
