Assembling a Structured Family
When one thinks of a traditional structured family it usually consists of a husband, wife
and their children. Growing up my family consisted of my mother, brother, and myself.
When I read about families, sometimes it is hard for me to picture a traditional structured
family. It was hard having a single parent taking care of the responsibilities of two. I
sometimes had to take the initiative to find myself transportation to places I needed to be
because my mother was busy taking care of my brother’s needs and was unable to drive
me. Sometimes watching my brother affected my time spent with friends due to my
mother’s other obligations. Growing up I was involved with many extracurricular activities
such as wrestling and track. These activities held events, and most of the time my mother
was unable to make them to see me because she had other responsibilities. Now that I am
married and one day plan to have a family of my own, I plan to use what I have both
experienced and saw in my past years to help mold my family’s future.
