Developing an Assessment Plan
These students have been grouped based off the amount of words they were able to read
per minute. According to Rasinski and Manzo, third grade students should be reading
somewhere between 86 and 124 words per minute on a third-grade fluency probe. Group 1 was
able to read the most words per minute, is closest to the End of Year Target and has reached the
word per minute goal on the fluency probe. Group 2 is below the 86 and 124 words per minute
on the third-grade fluency probe but is within reach. Their fluency levels have gone up since
week 1 and their word growth seems to be positively increasing each week. Group 3 has shown
the least amount of growth. They are far behind the fluency probe goals and they are more than
50 words away from the End of Year Target.
Placement Justification
Group 1
I placed Zella in group 1 as she has the highest word per minute score and is closest to the
median score and End of Year Target.
I placed Corbin in group 1 because he has had the greatest amount of growth and is between 86
and 124 words per minute on the third-grade fluency probe.
I placed Raquel in group 1 because she has had the second highest growth and is between 86 and
124 words per minute on the third-grade fluency probe.
