What are the different ways of caring for frail elders? What community-based and/or government
services and programs work best? Identify and discuss at least one method of care and one service or
program in your submission.
There are many ways of caring for frail elders. I would say that it’s important to
remember always that keeping in mind that the individual should always be treated with the up
most respect and should have a say so in any decisions. If they cannot speak on their behalf or
are not mentally or physically able to then their best intentions should always be at hand. I think
the best way would educating them on their options. While they might not be able to cook and do
day to day things there are amazing resources such as home care facilities that are non-medical
based and simply come into the home to help with day to day tasks. My sister-in-law works for
one of these companies and she helps in cooking, cleaning, feeding animals, and even taking
some of her clients shopping. Some elderly does need more care so home health options that are
medical based might be needed such as home health or a facility like we have in my hometown.
