IS THE DEMAND FOR ON-DEMAND LABOR ABOUT TO SHIFT?
Do you believe contract work like what one sees at Uber is the wave of the
future, or do you think that eventually it will be difficult to find people willing to
take such jobs?
In order to answer to this question first we should identify what makes appealing this
type of job to workers. We can see that these jobs are low paid, no job security and
there is no benefit provided. However, main reason is Flexibility in these jobs. They can
work when they want. Nowadays people are busier ever before because most us should
work and study simultaneously or do extra work. As we can see there are many people
who are willing to do part time job. This factor might make this job life long enough. In
my opinion, as long as its pay off and flexibility is equal, it is going to have life.
How does technology shape the ability of organizations to employ contract
workers in unprecedented ways?
The first thing is that our traditional jobs may disappear in the future. Because people
today change jobs every two years or less, and it is estimated that 65% of children
entering primary school will work in roles that do not currently exist. This
unprecedented wave of job choice, job loss, and job creation is influenced by two
factors. They are technology innovation and increasing automation of task.
Another is that by absorbing the routine aspects of our current jobs. Machines are
letting us to do activities that are more creative. Many futurists predict that while
people started working remotely. Because of these conditions, the future of work is
going to be more uncertain and exciting ever before.
