As Rich as Croesus
For this week’s modular themes assignment, I chose a theme I have not done yet,
interaction and exchange. In this week’s reading I read about Croesus, the king of Lydia and one
of the wealthiest rulers in history. Croesus also invented the first system of coinage using gold
and silver. This allowed transactions to be standardized and completed more quickly than ever
before. Lydia, being a hub for trade and travel, it makes sense that with the accessibility of large
quantities of gold and silver as well as the amount of trade being done, that this would be where
