Week 12 Summary
The article that I have chosen to do a summary on is called “Is torture ever justified?” by
the author of economist.com. The first thing this article does right off the bat is mention the 9/11
terror attacks. Also, at the beginning, the author of the article asks a rhetorical question, “Does
that mean that torture can sometimes be justified to extract information”, and answers in the next
sentence with, “No.” Torturing a human being is cruel and it can never be justified because it is
degrading. It ruins the respect and identity of a human being. Even after the 9/11 attacks, the
author states that torture, especially with the cruel methodology, should NOT be allowed.
