ARTICLE SYNOPSIS
This article explains why it is important for any country to participate in e-business and the
many business opportunities that are available. However, when it comes to the intellectual
property, such as copyrights, patents, piracy, or trademarks they must be protected. Since
there are risks concerning intellectual property the laws are constantly changing so that the
risks are minimal.
LEGAL ISSUE

With the rise of the Internet as a medium for generating significant sales revenue,
deceitful competitors have pirated and misused protected trademarks in novel and
occasionally shrewd ways to gain an unfair advantage over the competition (Forromer,
Colletti, & Lieb, n.d.).” Another legal issue with e-business is infringement. By having
patent rights this can be an important bargaining chip should another patent holder accuse
the company of infringement. “Cross-licenses have long been used to resolve lawsuits for
patent infringement (Forromer, Colletti, & Lieb, n.d.).”
