ety“to“correct,“govern,“and“modify“the“actions“of“imprisoned“criminals.There“are“three“k
ey“elements“of“the“penal“system:“punishing,“protecting“the“environment“and“rehabilitat-
ing“the“prisoner.“It“remains“unclear,“however,“how“effectively“these“purposes“are“ac-
complished“by“the“current“U.S.“correctional“system.“The“resources“expended“in“the“cor
rectional“system“could“be“better“used.“A“few“may wonder“how“society“managed!
to“live“without“prisons in the“past,“ever“since“the“development“of“prisons. Although“cor-
rectional“facilities“and“institutions“had“historically“existed,“not much has
improved“in“terms“of“the“strategies“used. To improve a better outcome towards the
goals, there should be more focus on how to support the offenders. In“order“to“help“of-
