Article Analysis
The first article I chose was The Science Of Human Cloning: How Far We’ve Come And How
Far We’re Capable Of Going. I found the article interesting because it talks about why cloning is
so controversial, which I did not understand before. The article mention, that although cloning
humans is possible in theory, it is not guaranteed to be safe. Only 1 out of 100 clones end up as
successful and working animals. Many of the clones die or need to be put down early on, as they
develop abnormally large organs. Lots of people, even scientists themselves, find it too risky to
attempt cloning humans any time soon, when there is such a high failure rate. However,
therapeutic cloning has less of a moral controversy or burden than reproductive cloning, as it is
used more for patient and disease specific conditions, and the embryo is not put into a woman’s
womb. Therapeutic cloning has also shown benefits in tissue replacement. Although
reproductive cloning seems morally ambiguous, I feel like therapeutic cloning can be really
beneficial for humans in the long run. Lots of people could be helped from being able to replace
damaged tissue, and even though some people out there are against its research, I think it should
continue as long as they are within some line of ethics.
