Contempory Families in U.S.
1. Peggy McIntosh’s article focus around the idea of racism and how it puts
others into a disadvantage. Peggy implies that white colored individuals
ignore the fact that they have power and privileges over everyone else
because we live in a society of white dominance. She talks about the
privileges that include education, politics, hygiene, careers, physical
appearance and many more. McIntosh also tries to relate to her audience
by making a list of the daily effects of white privilege in her life. She states
that those daily effects attach more to skin color rather than to class,
religion, ethnic status, or geographic location.
She also makes a comparison between earned power and conferred
privilege. She explains how everyone can gain power if they earn it, but
only a certain number of people is only available to some groups. Mclntosh
