Part Two: Essay- “Evaluating Art”
1. Description
In the painting “Queen” by Audrey Flack, Flack uses many different elements of art that
work together to create a beautiful painting. Flack uses the formal elements of line and texture to
make the painting seem more lifelike. Flack uses many kinds of lines, she uses lines to give a 3-
dimensional feel and to make it look like the objects are coming out of a box. Flack also uses soft
and hard lines to make the objects have shadows, therefore adding the 3-dimensional affect.
Flack also uses texture on some of the objects to make them seem real and like you can touch
them. Some examples of the texture are that she gives the rose water droplets, puts texture on
the orange making it seem juicy and adds a glossy feel to the makeup, to make the objects seem
real. Flack creates a remarkable painting that stands out from the rest with the incredible visual
elements she uses.
