Art Essay
Vicente Silva Manansala was known for his works that resembled cubism art works due to the
use of the lines that make up his scenes. His work titled “Pila sa Bigas” (1972) specifically also follows
this trend but the colors used are less saturated compared to his usual works such as “magsasaka”,
“manok”, and “Harana” to name a few.
Based on the reference, the painting possesses a rough or dirty texture due to the use of small
dabs of darker colors in specific places. Even without looking at the art’s title, I was able to deduce that
the people were falling in line for something like relief goods. Even the positioning of the characters and
use of the portraits spacing is significant to the scene it is depicting. Even though its not fully detailed,
you can clearly see the emotions of all the people in line. From the mother sitting down with her child
