Blaise Pascal takes an interesting approach on the reason why people should believe in
God. Pascal comes up with a proposition known as “The Wager.” In this proposition, Pascal
explains if people are given the choice whether to believe in a God or to not believe, it would be
most logical to believe in a God. Blaise Pascal describes it as, “A game being played at the
extremity of this infinite distance where heads or tails will turn up. What will you wager?
According to reason, you can do neither the one thing nor the other; according to reason, you can
defend neither of the propositions.” This shows that you must choose because you are embarked
and must wager. He goes on to explain the gains and losses from believing or not believing in a
