Argumentation paper
Brenda is a 23 year old college student attending Georgia State University. Her major is
nursing but she is currently taking a critical thinking class and is assigned to write
argumentative paper with the topic of her choice. Since she has had some free time, Brenda
has been watching more television, and notices that the main trends on television are sex and
violence, which she feels makes TV more exciting. After attending a church service on a Sunday
afternoon, Brenda speaks with her pastor, Eddie Currnie, about the paper that needs to be
completed. Mr.Currnie is her pastor but has known Brenda for over ten years so she considers
him an advisor as well. Brenda feels that it would be a great idea to get an opinion of Pastor
Currnie about sex and violence appearing on television so she can make a great argument for
her paper.
Brenda started off with the question of “should violence and sex be allowed to be
portrayed on prime time television?”. Pastor Currnie says, “Most Americans seem to think so. I
saw a survey online saying seventy-six percent of Americans felt that TV had too much sexually
explicit material and eighty-five percent believed that television contributes to a decline in
values. Television today celebrates premarital sex, adultery, and even homosexuality.
Teenagers watching sex on TV influences them to have sex and more likely to initiate
intercourse as well as other sexual activities.” Brenda says “I do think that the content of
