Prof. Lynn Schoch English 111. – Dual Argument
Argument: Commercialized sale and distribu’on of Cigare(es should be illegal.
Against the argument: The sale and commercializa’on of tobacco has been engrained in our
Na’on’s history for hundreds of years, ge,ng rid of that would be like stripping away a part of
our country. The employment and money made from this market is tremendous. From the
people making sure that each cigare(e that is shipped out in their individual boxes are up to
par, to the remarkable employees that sell you the delicious s’cks themselves; so many people
are bene3’ng from this product. I’m sure that you love your freedom of expression being to do
what you please; as long as it doesn’t harm others there should be no reason as to why you
shouldn’t be able to. The beauty of this na‘on is that we are given the freedom to enjoy the
things we love; si,ng down watching the news and smoking a cigare(e, being able to walk
freely and pu6, and driving to and from where ever it is we want to go while enjoying a
decadent smoke. One might say that the cigare(e company is an evil industry, trying to kill
people o6 with their horrible cancerous product, quite the contrary. Why would the cigare(e
industry want you to die? They want you alive, well, and smoking their product. With the proper
amount consumed within a day, healthy exercise and ea‘ng, there is no reason you shouldn’t
be able to spend your whole life living healthily and smoking in this na‘on that is the land of the
free.
For the Argument: Imagine what you would pay someone to slowly kill you. Or your son or
daughter willingly let someone pump heroin into their veins. Even casually sell it to them, and
almost 500,000 deaths that are related to cigare(e consump‘on and second hand smoke.
