People who are blind or visually impaired use assistive devices to help aid them with
using their computers. Screen readers such as JAWS (Job Access with Speech) and NVDA
(Non-Visual Desktop Access) are two popular software programs that help aid the blind. Both
programs translate the contents of the screen into speech, while enabling the user to control the
computer with keyboard commands. Although both programs are well known, JAWS is the most
popular. NVDA is free to download or upload to a usb. The yearly price for JAWS is $90 or
$1000 for a home license that can be installed on three computers that never expires. Both screen
reading software options supports all versions of windows.
