Are We A Team?
1. What type of team does the new CIO have? What do you see as the key problem with the
team?
There are many different types of teams. Some teams are permanent while others are temporary.
They are form for specific purpose and many times with an ending date in mind. Teams have the
purpose to accomplish stated tasks and provide some kind of services. Some teams are cross
functional team, a task force, leadership team, special-purpose team and a self-managed. I feel
the CIO does not have a team, but rather a group of smart, well educated people. They lack
direction and motivation to move forward. It is up to the CIO to define the team and what goals
and objectives. According to the reading, this group of people is waiting for direction, They also
is looking to the CIO to provide them with a sense of direction.
The CIO must get the group on track. She will need to have open communication, build trust
with the staff and make it clear what she want this group of individuals to do.
2. How do you think that the team evolved to this low level of cooperation and cohesiveness?
I think the team has evolved to this low point because of leadership. The CIO has not
communicated what it is that she wants them to do. Often times, if management does not guide
the group by giving them directions, cheering them on and building trust , she will not get
anything do.
3. What suggestions do you have for the CIO to help her turn this collection of individual region-
al and department heads into a top-performing team? Explain.
