Apollo 13 Critique
Plot Summary
This was the first time I have watched Apollo 13 and I thought it was good. It was about
three astronauts Jim, Fred and Ken about to walk on the moon after the first moon-landing
mission. After months of training, there is a chance Ken might get sick so NASA replaces
him with Jack. The launch runs smoothly but they soon find out there is problem with an
engine but it is only a minor issue. Not long into the mission, Jim is broadcasting to Earth
but Houston realizes that American do not care anymore about space missions. After the
broadcast, Jack is testing the oxygen tanks and it causes an explosion. They have to
abandon the mission to the moon because they are running out of oxygen. They leave their
craft and get into their lunar module, hoping to get home. Meanwhile the boys in Houston
control are working as hard as they can to find out how to get them there. They work
through problems that arise such as to much CO2 and getting them to the point of reentry.
They call in Ken who comes up with a plan to pilot them home. All of America is watching
now since this is a near disaster, once they reach reentry they lose contact for four minutes,
one minute longer than normal so everyone feared they were dead. They all survived and it
turned out it was a defective heating coil in the oxygen tank that caused the explosion.
