Apollo 13 Movie Critique:2
The screenplay of Apollo 13 has moved many viewers since its debut; and after watching
this film again, my curiosity continued towards the organization of such a task as sending a team
of humans to the moon. Throughout the story the astronauts were faced with life threatening
dilemma’s. Meanwhile, the group effort of the men remaining on Earth had also come to terms
with moral decisions that could save or end the lives of the three astronauts stranded in space.
The film distributed problematic issues throughout the storyline, from a basic moral decision in
the beginning made by Jim Lovell to continue to travel to space without his comrade Ken
Mattingly after extensive training, to an encouraged suggestion to Gene Kranz by an employee to
turn off the valves to halt the potential leakage, risking the fuel to send the spacecraft back to
Earth. The three astronauts were not as syncopated with Ken’s replacement, Jack Swaigert, but
had given trust to the new member to complete the mission with his knowledge and set of skills.
