In Margaret Magat’s article “From rebounds to three-pointers: Linsanity, racial insults, and
stereotypes in flux”, Magat tackles the important yet overlooked issues of racism and prejudice toward
Asian athletes and Asian-Americans in general in wake of NBA star Jeremy Lin’s rough journey to the
pros. Magat explores the subtle and not-so-subtle racism that Jeremy Lin faced on his path to stardom,
which continued when he was at the top of his game. While these issues impacted Lin directly, she
connected them to the hardships that Asians face in the United States every day, and how Lin was able to
move the conversation about Asian Americans beyond race and ethnicity.
