Religious and Spiritual Values (100-200 words) [10 points]
American values of the relationship with humans and nature are categorized into many
aspects. Religious and Spiritual Values are one of many influential groups. Surveying and
interviews show that religious models and values for nature derive from the impact of
traditional Judeo-Christian religious teachings or more abstract feelings of spirituality. We
see that both are relevant, and through religious teachings, we know that they are many
moral codes that are transcribed in the relationship of humans and nature. Through religious
teachings, we see that not only are all living things created and made by God but that
“because God created the natural world, it is wrong to abuse it” (Kempton 91). The
agreement of creation being a reason for environmental protection is not solely because of
religious concepts. Still, through these teaching, it shows the values of the natural world are
seen through all aspects of life and spiritual beings. The informants define spiritual matters
and religious values as being the same but different. It is said that you are never nearer the
Lord than when you are outdoors, meaning that the creations of God are the closest thing to
being with the Lord in our current living state. Many believe in this, and many don’t. We
saw that 46 percent argued with this idea through surveying because they do not associate
with any organized religion, therefore, do not feel a spiritual force in the universe. Through
this, the only way to justify this controversial idea is to justify the rights of other species
