The Myth: The Great Winter
Winter has always been revered in Nordic history. It has been said to possess a
distinct energy. One of stillness, intimacy, and repair. The Norsemen used this time to rest
and be with their families. They found it therapeutic and necessary for the balance of life.
However, this time of tranquil energy had been non-existent in Scandinavia for the past 50
years. A draught had ravaged the land, depleted the rivers and lakes of water, and made
men turn on each other. Men became restless and only concerned with their own well-
being. This all changed in the year 535 when a towering mountain of a horse descended
