Wordless Picture Book
Pancakes for Breakfast by Tomie DePaola.
A grandmother wakes up early morning with pancakes on the brain. As soon as she is up and
dressed, she immediately gets out a cook book and starts to take out all the ingredients needed to
make pancakes. She soon realizes that she is missing some ingredients and goes out on little
errands to retrieve the necessary ingredients. Once she has the last item needed, she returns home
to find a great mess created by her pets. The grandmother sadly thought she could no longer get
pancakes until the distant smell of pancakes reached her nose. She follows the smell into the
neighbor's house and finally has her pancakes.
Based on the criteria of evaluating children's books, I believe this book is a great for all children
and will spark their interest. The storyline is about a grandmother whose goal is to have pancakes
for breakfast. When trying to complete this goal she came onto other tasks, instead of getting
discouraged she complete these tasks. After many challenges the grandmother was finally
