In a Grove Masago
The character I had the most interest in was the wife in the story named “Masago” and
the role of honor and shame in their culture. I have chosen her because her struggle to protect her
honor and virtue. Masago is a woman with crowded judgement due to the values her country
holds above all else including life. She lied and pled for the death of her husband, but the
question is why? Was she a bad person, confused, or just experiencing a lapse of judgement?
