Introduction
Samsung is a major international company with global operations in more than 190
countries around the world, which has about 600 factories, research and development
centres and sales offices. The business mainly lies in the 6 major areas: information and
communications, automation and control, electricity, transport, medical systems and
lighting. We decide to choose the Telecommunication as our new area, and the country we
chose is Vietnam.
External environment
Political Issues
First of all, the government of Vietnam insisted the country stability in the first place,
attaching importance to economic development. The government adhere to the principles
of peaceful development.[1]
· The policies and regulations established or readjusted by the government in the last
twenty years are ,on the whole, supporting the development of foreign-funded enterprises.
The government promulgated “Law of Socialist Republic of Vietnam on Foreign-Capital
Enterprises”. The law has been modified and fixed six times, since it is expected to ensure
the safety of foreign investment.[2]Vietnam has signed “investment protection agreement”
and ” Asean free trade agreement with South Korea” with South Korea.[3]The government
has approvaled “high technology development plan” in 2011, and Information
Communication is one of the key development fields .[4]
Vietnam has rich iron resources, gold resources and graphite resources, but silver resources
are scarce.[5] Chemical industry in Vietnam is developing rapidly.[6] Generally speaking,
material base of Vietnam is suitable for production of electronic products.
Vietnam has large numbers of cheap labor resources, and this factor makes Vietnam a
excellent production and processing base. The cost of production in Vietnam is about one
third of the cost in China[7]
In fact, Samsung has cooperated with the government of Vietnam in many fields, so both
sides have the cooperation experience. Samsung C&T has signed a contract with a
company of Vietnam for the construction of a hydropower station on October 22, 2012.
[8]Samsung admitted that the company had finished the discussion with the government of
Vietnam about building the second mobile phone factory recently.[9] One can imagine that
Samsung’ business will be promoted easily in Vietnam.
