Stand Up and Speak Out
Theres no better time than when school first starts, especially in high school, to make a
stand against bullying. The kids are all so excited to be in school, but there are many kids who
are different and the less popular kids are the ones that get bullied and repeatedly hurt. Before,
you had to physically hold someone down to hurt them, or yell at them in person. The kids who
are different than everyone else are hurt the most because they aren’t the same. Either they are
nerds, attracted to someone of the same sex, or aren’t pretty enough. However, with the advances
in technology, bullying has skyrocketed and become a serious issue. I agree with John Clouds
article “Bullied to Death” that being bullied can really take a toll on someone, causing them
to take harmful action. Sadly, it leaves everyone in shock and pain, wishing they could of done
something to help.
People don’t understand what bullying is all about until it happens to them or someone
they know. They talk about it in school and kids just think it’s a way to get out of class for a free
period. Those assemblies are important believe it or not. As kids get older the bullying starts to
get worse and worse. The names get a little harsher and the actions taken become more serious.
Kids in elementary school really don’t know what bullying is until they get to a certain age. Mid–
dle school bullying can start to pick up, but its mostly verbal until they get a little older. The end
of eighth grade and beginning of high school is where it starts to get dangerous. Kids think they

are grown up when they reach high school, but you still have the kids that are quite, nervous and
afraid. Those not so outgoing quite kids are the ones that bullies prey on. The bullies think its
easier to be mean to someone that cant do anything back to them the “nerds” they call them. The
world is evolving and becoming more advanced in technology and cyberbullying is becoming
more common.
Middle school and high school cyberbullying is becoming a more common issue. With
the new technology like iPhones apps are made to fit that specific phone for example, twitter, In–
stagram, and snapchat. Those are some of the biggest social media apps used by teens around the
world. The apps are made to follow other people, see what they post, and to communicate how-
ever you please. When it comes to middle school and high school kids either have phones or
