The 1920’s help build what the American society’s interest in sporting events is today. The
1920’s saw a boost in sports which was also referred to as the golden age in sports. These
sports were those such as tennis, boxing, baseball, golf and swimming. Social
broadcasting, such as radio and newspapers helped to draw attention to these sports. It
allowed individuals to listen to “live” broadcastings and keep up to date with the current
sport scores. Football leagues were organized in the 1920’s. The money these sporting
events drew in helped in the building of stadiums as well was able to increase the salaries
of the rising athletes. Some of these athletes included Babe Ruth who was still an up and
coming baseball phenomenon. In other sports, there was Jack Dempsey who was a big
time boxer, Red Grange and Knute Rockne as football players. These athletes were so
influential in making sports what they are today that their legends are never forgotten.
Many have been honored in Hall of Fames throughout the Unites States still to present day.
The first radio station to be considered experimental with bringing sports to the public’s
