I have learned a lot of things about like how people used to get race or the kinds
of race. Because I am Asian and my country does not have many races like America, I
have not experienced racial discrimination before I came to the America. I did not know
what kinds of races exists in society before I have taken this class. I really did not pay
attention about it because I did not know what racial discrimination is. The most
interesting part of this class to me was the racial discrimination which is related with
Asian. After I came here, I have been being discriminated a lot against based on my race
in my life. Before I took this class, I was just thinking that racial discrimination is not
around me, it is just about blacks or whites, but it is not. I have realized that racial
discrimination is the serious problem that every human being has. I have realized that
there are a lot of kinds of racial discrimination all over the world. Even small racial
discrimination exists in modern society. I would like to talk about how the lecture of this
class affects my thought that I used to have against racial discrimination.
First, I have heard of a rumor that Native American or White can hook up with
Asian girls. When I heard that, it was disgusting because I felt like they looked down
Asian. It is just stereotype of Asian women that how Asian women are being viewed as
for them. I did not know that it is one of the racisms at that time, but after taking this class
and careful consideration about it, I realized that it is racism. Then, I remember to have
heard the word “yellow fever” before. According to the article, “I am not your pretty little
lotus blossom” by Joy, she states that “To them, “Asian” is our defining characteristic, in
a way that “white” would never be used to define themselves.” They define Asian with
their ideals which they get knowledge via media or internet. They create the personality
of Asian women like how they want Asian women to be. Also, she states that “When the
“Yellow Fever’ed men speak to me, they aren’t speaking to their idea of an Asian woman,
their fantasy made fetish.” It means the men who get yellow fever see the stereotype they
have against Asian women, but they don’t care about the personality. They ignore it. If I
rephrase it, they just want a Asian woman for dating and really don’t care whoever she is
