In the book Confederates in the Attic, Tony Horwitz documents how Americans
remember the Civil War by visiting confederate heartlands throughout the United States. As a
little boy, Horwitz used to spend hours looking at a Civil War sketchbook captivated by images
of Union and Confederate soldiers engaged in battle. After having a moment of deep awaking by
an unexpected Civil War reenactment, Horwitz embarked on a journey to analyze how
Americans remember the war. Throughout his journey, Horwitz encounters many Civil War
