8.8 million is a large number. Think of what you could do with 8.8 million dollars. Think of how
rested you would be with an 8.8 million hour nap! Now, consider 8.8 million people. Think of
their families. What if I told you those 8.8 million people died in 2015? That’s 8.8 million
funerals, 8.8 million families grieving, and 8.8 million people’s deaths this year that could be
prevented. According to the World Health Organization in 2015, 8.8 million people died from
cancer, the chief cause of death in our world today. That number could be much bigger if it were
not for the research done to find cancer cures, and the funds used to support that research.
Without the donations, the fund raising, and the help of people like you and me, cancer will
forever be an ongoing battle. Luckily, foundations such as the American Cancer Society provides
such funds to do the research essential to save lives every day.
The American Cancer Society and its Mission
The American Cancer Society works endlessly towards one, main goal: fight to end cancer in
every way possible. The American Cancer Society, composed of millions of volunteers,
completes its mission by funding research to better understand cancer, providing support,
showing people how to reduce the risk of cancer, offering access to care nationwide, and fighting
for bills that help rally the world into fighting for an end to cancer (American Cancer Society). In
fact, the strong support of the American Cancer Society in 2009 helped the pass of the Family
