17. Please describe an extra-curricular activity that you have participated in. We know you
may have participated in many activities, so please list the single activity that you think is
the most significant. Please keep your answer brief.
Last year, I involved myself in a team of four members taking part in The Nielsen Case
Competition 2012 on behalf of my university. The challenge was to solve a business issue
(marketing related) within only 20 hours since we received the preliminary case from the
organizer. I was one of 2 members in my team in charge of presenting the analysis, ideas,
solution as well as answering the questions to the judges. Even though our team only
stopped the competition as one of 20 teams coming from various universities in Ho Chi
Minh City, I really appreciated this life-time opportunity for the reason that it did not only
mean a chance for me myself to experience the leadership, to apply my knowledge and
skills into practice, to know what drawbacks needed improving but it also did act as a
motivation for me to learn more and more. On the other hand, in some aspects, through the
competition, I could feel a little more self-confident after breaking my personal limit to
find out the problems, propose solutions and complete the presentation preparation after
just one sleepless night. Truly, nothing is impossible with determination and passion.
18. Please describe any awards or scholarships you have won.
In high school, it was truly an honor for me to be selected to be one of 6 students receiving
a full 12,100 USD-scholarship to FPT University based on my academic results as well as
my current activities at school. Actually, this scholarship came to me as a surprise that I
did not know its existence before till the day FPT University Officers came to my school
introducing their training programs and announcing that they were recruiting 6 excellent
students to offer the full scholarship. After investigating the courses in FU as well as
considering the quality of teaching and learning there, I decided to apply for this
scholarship into a university in which every subject and course is taught in English. With
good academic backgrounds and outstanding school activities, I was chosen in
over-excitement state of mind to be rewarded this scholarship among many other potential
and remarkable candidates. When it comes to experiencing the real teaching and learning
environment in FU, I feel so great that I did not make a wrong decision to be a part of this
active university. As a result, for 4 consecutive semesters, I was always in top 3 of FSB
(FPT School of Business) and was awarded “The highest grade" in Management Skills and
Advanced Corporate Finance.
19. Have you had an internship or other work experience? If no, skip the question. If yes,
please describe the single most significant job or internship you have held.
I have had an 8-month internship in FrieslandCampina Vietnam - one of the biggest
corporate well-known for producing dairy-based beverages and providing infant and
toddler nutrition, from January to September 2013. During this OJT period
(On-job-training), I worked in Customer Finance belonging to Finance Department. My
job was to analyze the profit each customer (distributors, supermarkets and convenient
stores) brings to the company. At the same time, I was also in charge of judging and
measuring how much the company should invest in each customer based on their past
profit contribution performance. On the other hand, evaluating the effectiveness and
efficiency (mainly via ROI) of the projects as well as promotions and campaigns launched
and run during one-year period is my another task at work. I really enjoyed working at this
position as it was not only a chance for me to hone and leverage my management and
analytical skills in Finance field but it also offered me many opportunities to enhance my
knowledge about other fields such as Marketing and Sales because my business partners
mainly came from these departments.
20. If you had only one word to describe yourself, what would it be?
HARD-WORKING
21. Why should AmCham choose you? There are many great students applying. What
makes you special, different, or better?
I am not too intelligent but I am hard-working. However, there are some students out there
page-pf3
who are even more industrious than me. So what makes me different and outstanding from
others? I believe that could be my ambition together with perseverance. Being too
ambitious is not good but ambition in an acceptable moderation when you know where
you are, what you are capable of and what your self – limit is can drive you to success.
Sometimes, I know I am doing well at my things and my boss is satisfied with my results
but I myself always want to find a more effective way and a less time-consuming solution
to my job. Therefore, ambition makes me work harder, make me endeavor more to exploit
better ways of work and gain better results. However, ambition alone is not enough. It
cannot help anyone to achieve success easily but it needs the support of perseverance
which means that you need to put a persistent determination in everything you desire to
attain. In a word, ambition makes me dare to think of the new things, help me to be more
creative and innovative in association with perseverance which helps me to gain success
faster than others. I believe these two personalities, which help complete me more
