Ambition and Tragedy: Lady Macbeth and Eve
In The Tragedy of Macbeth, the depiction of personal ambition and how far a person is
willing to go for it is the overarching theme with Macbeth and his wife. Lady Macbeth is the
subject of the theme, and plays a crucial role in rejuvenating Macbeth’s ambition to become ruler
of the Scottish empire as she influences Macbeth gravely into making steps. We are led to
believe that much of the achievement and misfortune of Macbeth can be directly linked to Lady
Macbeth, as she gravely influences her husband’s decision. Lady Macbeth harbors many
similarities to Eve, Adam’s wife, who plays an important role in influencing her husband’s
decision in going against God's will. She influences him into taking the forbidden fruit, which he
had been clearly advised against. However, his wife succeeds in convincing him to eat the fruit
after being influenced by Satan. Lady Macbeth, on the other hand, leads her husband into
