The Amazon of Innovation
Introduction: Amazon, a company that had been around for over a decade had proven the test of
time. Especially in an era where technology prevails, it had proved as an excellent resource
regarding e commerce. As business review reports “When customers are deciding on a purchase,
they start by looking online.” (Business Review) The era of “big box” stores has needed. As the
demand for time has increased, the consumers’ needs for fast and convenient shopping has
increased, and Amazon capitalized on this concept to create a fast “a place where people can come
to find and discover anything they might want to buy online.” (The Balance) In fact, it is their
mission statement.
Main Issue: We will now examine how, and what methods Amazon used to expand and remain
relevant amongst many competitors looking to capture the same market share.
Analysis: Is collaboration important to business success? Absolutely. Amazon managed to “ship
15.6 million items on a single day”. This could only be possible through collaboration. They do
not have the channels and distribution capacity to handle and deliver all those products, especially
during seasons when buying is high. That’s exactly why during these seasons they have leased that
capacity to other companies. This allows them to keep consumers happy without sacrificing
resources. Amazon has also shown its willingness to experiment by taking on EBay. It attempted
to capture some of EBay’s market share by creating a similar auction arena. To do this employs
must be able to operate at very high level. As, Moore’s law states transistors per circuits will double
every year. This mean that information processing will double as well. This information’s
processing will come in in the form of data. People must be able to interpret this new information,
hardware must have the capacity and be available to capture this Data, and software must be
available to sort the new Data to the appropriate parties. Amazon web services is an example of
this new data. By giving developers access to product data they are better able to research
consumer trends. As such, many questions will probably arise regarding how to handle different
situations. Data processing doubling every year can be quite a task for associates to handle. As an
employee in a leadership role I would expect that that a response to a confused employee might be
to not be threatened by new processes or experiences. I would suggest that since we are pioneers
