Film Essay
Amadeus is a movie about Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the latter
half of the eighteenth century – a period of classical music – in Vienna, Austria. Salieri is an
Italian classical composer who works for the emperor of Austria as a court composer. Mozart is
an Austrian composer who is famous for his extraordinary talent. The film describes Mozart’s
success in music and his brief life which is destroyed by Salieri’s jealousy. In three hours
watching it, I enjoyed wonderful performances which evoke my feelings and emotions about
music, characters, and society in that era. Also, I gain more knowledge of how politics limits the
creativity of music, how greed pollutes a person’s soul, and music is only constituted by real
emotions. I believe that Amadeus is a perfect choice for people who love music and opera, who
admire Mozart’s talent, and who like musical drama films because they would have a great film
