My topic for the essay will be the Themes of Alice in Wonderland. There are several
themes in this book and I will write about each of them.
First theme is Growth into Adulthood. I think that this is the central theme of the book
because it shows how much has Alice grown. She deals with numerous different situations
where she has got to show that she can adapt and that she is mature. Her progress is
showed throught the story, while in the beginning she could barely stop crying and by the
end she is able to hold on her own against the confusing logic of Wonderland. This theme
also represents lost of childhood innocence because Alice was put through a lot of strange
physical challenges. Also, never being the right size represents the changes people go
through puberty, so we can say Alice had a lot of struggles controlling herself within this
period.
The next theme is Size Change and it is connected to the previous theme. The change of
size does not just represent the change in physical form, but also in psychological aspect.
Every time Alice got through a change of size she also gained a whole new perspective on
the task ahead of her and that helped her to get through the story. One scene stands of in
this sections and that truly shows Alice growth, not just by height but also in mind is the
scene in the trial where she was able to finally speak out.
