Alfred Adler’s very life directly impacted the ideology behind his psychotherapy,
research, and findings, shown greatly in his quote included here, “The goal of the human soul is
conquest, perfection, security, superiority. Every child is faced with so many obstacles in life that
no child ever grows up without striving for some form of significance” (Schultz & Schultz, 2017,
p. 108). Perhaps no one would know this better than sickly Alfred Adler, whose very childhood
was marked by an awareness of death, and jealousy of his healthy and mobile elder brother.
Adler was chained down by immobility caused by rickets, his main source of developing inferior
feelings towards both his brother and the neighborhood children. Yet, with force of will and a
drive to make something of himself, Adler would force himself to attend in sports, and turned
