The article I read was about a New York judge striking down the mask mandate set in place by
the governor of New York. The judge decided that the governor had overstepped their authority by
implementing the mandate instead of having the state legislature implement whether or not a mandate
was needed. In 2021 the New York state legislature constrained the governor's ability to issue decrees
in regards to a mask mandate. The Governor Hochul plans to fight this ruling because the health and
safety of the people is vital. With the mask mandate in place the amount of covid cases had dropped
significantly.
I believe that opportunity cost plays a big role in this situation due to limiting the governor’s
ability to decree covid policies which directly effect the safety of the people. The governor acted
quickly to set forth safety precautions for the 20 million residents of New York and by doing so, the
