AIRLINE AND DISPATCH OPERATIONS 2
1. Explain two rules that apply to carrying cargo in the passenger compartments for
carriers flying under Part 121. What is the rule and why does it matter?
Part 121.825 gives three rules to be applied when carrying cargo for flights under Part 121. The
first rule is that cargo must be carried in approved cargo bins that meet various requirements
(Legal Information Institute, 2015). The bins should withstand load factors and emergency
landing conditions applied to the passenger seats of the airplane. The bins will only carry the
maximum weight of cargo approved; hence they must be conspicuously marked to ensure
effective weight distribution. The bin should be fully enclosed, and it should be made with a
flame-resistant material. There are many other conditions that the bin must fulfill to ensure cargo
is stored safely so that it will not compromise the safety of the plane and the passengers.
