I put butter and pepper in my roman noodles. In Detroit, I feel that African Americans are
known to do weird things with cheap food. I don’t like the fact that I am looked at differently
because of the food that I ate. I eat what I want to and I feel that is the biggest part of my
identity. I like chicken, shrimp, beef, and oriental flavored roman noodles. If I was to say this in
front of a class in Sterling Heights, Michigan, I would be looked at as ghetto. I would be looked
at as if I was poor because to those students, noodles are what the poor people eat. Roman
noodles were always a part of my day to day schedule. I would eat them for lunch approximately
at 12.45 PM. The counselor’s office always had a microwave in which I could take my noodles
