For many years the films industry has been fueled and guided by revenue and ticket sales.
The popular taste in film has not been for films expressing the African American experience.
Few and far between, there has been African American films that received praise, such as Roots
and The Color Purple. Recently two films that have African American experience themes have
both received praise and have been successful in the box office, Get Out and Moonlight.
Moonlight winning the Oscar for Best Picture. The demographic in America is changing due to
an increase in the population minorities and films from a non-Caucasian experience will become
more popular as this trend increases.
