The way African American Art perpetuate intergenerational inequality is having the proper education
tools that are given to us to stop defending African American art. Using the knowledge behind what we
know about art itself, we can use to education others. For example, The Banjo Lesson by Henry Ossawa
Tanner is a portrait of a grandson and his grandfather. Some one that may have looked at the painting
for the first time would have a difficult time deciding who is being taught. Most people would say that
it’s the grandson that’s being taught because during that time period, men would teach the child
