Arrogance
“I am God’s vessel. But my greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself
perform live” (West). Kanye West, an impressive man with many accomplishments: 380
nominations and 92 awards, 2004 Best New Artist, and 2005 Video of the Year and Best Male
Hip-Hop Artist. But this same man with such large accomplishments possesses an even larger
ego. While West’s ego may pale in comparison to others, every person does possess a drum
major instinct. This is a want to be first. It is the desire to be in front. It is the need and the want
for attention. Kanye West exemplifies the arrogance laid out in Martin Luther King Jr.’s idea of
the “Drum Major Instinct” by the way he speaks, acts, and boasts about his accomplishments.
Kanye West’s greatest asset and worst downfall are his words. While he has become
