Purpose: The purpose of this case study was to examine the biosocial, cognitive, and
psychosocial development from ages 11 to 18, also known as adolescence.
Performed on: This case study was performed on a 19-yearold female named
Samantha.
Biosocial Development
Puberty
According to Berger, “the average age of menarche among normal weight girls is
about 12 years, 8 months, although variation in timing is quite normal” (2011, p. 381).
Samantha stated that she started her period for the first time at 12 years, 6 months of age.
She recalled this as being an embarrassing experience because she was at her younger
cousin’s birthday party when it happened.
Body Fat
Samantha weighed approximately 150 pounds when she began going through
