Adaptive Behavior and Development of Infants and Toddlers with Williams Syndrome
Williams Syndrome (WS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is caused by a deletion
of approximately 26 to 28 genes on chromosome 7. It causes a deficit in adaptive behavior,
difficulties eating and sleeping and also cognitive and developmental delays. Some of the most
common physical indicators are emotional instability, cardiovascular problems, and also a slower
speed of gaining weight than average as compared to their typical age-mates (Kirchner, Martens,
& Andridge, 2016). With adequate resources, the research was directed amongst infants and
toddlers in search for similarities and differences in the symptoms associated with WS, in
comparison to those already recognized in children, teenagers, and adults. The article under
review aimed the available information concerning the young children with Williams syndrome
by providing research outcomes from a study carried out on children while attending a Williams
syndrome clinic in the States.
