In this paper I will discuss the ways to set up art activities that stimulates the students mind
to be creative. I was given four scenarios that depict different art set ups. Two of them
were art friendly and the other two were not. The art center should be set up to allow the
creative juices of the student flow. There should be multiple options for the students to
choose so that what they create can be something that wasn’t constricted by too many
boundaries.
When Dory and Sammy were in the block center building robots, the teacher brought over
additional materials that allowed the students to be more creative without restrictions.
When the students received the materials they began to make bigger robots that even had
parts that moved. The teacher gave them the option to create something else without
saying anything. The teacher created the platform without stifling their creativity. When
the teacher brought the students the empty boxes from the grocery store and placed them in
the construction and pasting area they were also given options on what to do with the art
supplies. They could either build something or make something. The teacher doesn’t have
to give any instruction on what they should do with the boxes, but made it so they could do
whatever they wanted with the boxes within reason.
The next two scenarios do not reflect appropriate techniques for setting up art activities
because the teacher is blocking the students from being creative. Making rules to keep
