Activity 2.1 – Reaching Group Decisions Majority, Consensus, or What
A.) The company has to have a discussion which will help it to identify the more central, less
expensive location for a distribution center. All the departments of the company come
together to find the best option.
B.) The team has to come up with a similar decision and this calls for consensus among them.
They will have to put all their differences behind so that they can have a common stand.
C.) After the votes are cast, the side with the majority of votes is the one that wins
D.) The company owner gives the managers a chance to give their views on which
department will be allowed to move into a new facility. Ultimately, the company owner
is the one with the final decision.
E.) The issue at hand is casual Fridays; management feels that employees are abusing the
privilege. Authority rule with discussion will apply in this situation since it involves the
manager listening to the employees, but the final decision lies with the manager. This is
the best approach because management appoints a team to come up with
recommendations regarding the casual Fridays.
F.) The members have to hold a discussion to evaluate the members who will become
officers. Ultimately, the discussion needs to help them to come up with a conclusion.
G.) This method is useful when a group is not in a position to come together to make a
decision. The few member who has technical expertise are the ones who will help the
whole group to come up with a conclusive decision.
H.) The committee can cast their votes, and this will help them in making the decision
within a short time. The employees who are voted by the bigger number are the one who
will be promoted.
