Reading is a very significant piece of education for children at a young age.
Since I enjoy those younger grades, it is a topic that has a big part of my interest. If
children are not taught how to read properly, they will not be able to make it
through the rest of their education and even their life without deep struggle.
This year I have began my methods classes that go along with an internship.
One of my internships includes Literacy. Twice a week, I am able to go to one of the
elementary schools here in Hays. Being with first graders during their reading time
every other morning has been rewarding, yet eye opening. So many children that
are struggling with reading are those who do not practice at home. My mentor
teacher gives them a reading log that they turn in every other week. It gets filled out
